VEUS DEL MON A BARCELONA

Ok I hold my hand up high and say I went to the presentation of the book “veus del mon a Barcelona“. It was quite a nice presentation, held in the ayuntamiento in Plaza Sant Jaume in Barcelona just over a week ago.

There were musicians playing and some video footage of people from around the world speaking in Catalan – some of them pretty well, too. The highlight of the show, so to speak was a small discourse by Jordi Hereu – the mayor of Barcelona. Then it was down to Calle Avinyó to see the new linguistic centre that has recently been given a face-lift.

I enjoyed it because apart from not being the Catalan fanatic I expected he went on to explain how Catalan and Castellano can live harmoniously together and that anyone learning the Catalan language should not “renunciar” his/her own tongue. Bravo Jordi I thought. Maybe a few fanatics on this blog would do well to read the first few pages of this book which incidentally made me smile as there was not an English or rather UK “veu del mon a Barcelona” to be seen. Come on Tom you’re letting the side down mate. Oh and you too, Rab.

I’ll try and put some of the text of the book up soon and if anyone is interested I nabbed a few “extra” copies which will be given away on this blog once I devise a suitable competition or whatever.
