The Grand Prix of Europe in Valencia

The Grand Prix of Europe which takes place on 23rd August 2009 in Valencia, Spain looks set to be a thrilling race. Jensen Button, the current leader has said that his Brawn won’t defraud in Valencia and that he hopes to put behind him the last few races where his car has failed to live up to expectations.
Renault have been busy transporting their equipment to the Valencia circuit in the hope of a dramatic u-turn by the judges that have banned them from taking part for failing to put a wheel on properly on Fernando Alonso’s Renault. He did around a lap and a half and had to go back to the pits as one of his wheels came off and went bouncing down the track.
We all remember that just a few weeks back the son of ex world champion John Surtees, Henry, was killed by a tyre from the car of rival competitor Jack Clarke, who had spun into the wall exiting Westfield at the Brands Hatch race circuit in the south of England.
Felipe Massa seems to be recovering from his horrific accident at the Hungary circuit when a stray coil came off the back of Ruben Barichello’s car and hit Massa’s helmet. He’s just been discharged from hospital and is now in his home country of Brazil making great steps to a full recovery.
Nelson Piquet junior has been given his marching orders by Flavio Briatore and Team Renault and we can only assume that this has been because of his lack lustre performance this year.
Meanwhile, Michael Schumacher is preparing his return to F1 and the seven times world champion will substitute Massa for a few races or until the Brazilian makes a full recovery. ‘Schumi’ has already been seen testing an F2007 at Mugello but looks like any testing of the new F60 is out of the question due to a few teams complaining to the FIA. Apparently, rules are rules even for the great Schumacher.
Michael has also undergone a special fitness programme to get him race fit but it appears that much preparation won’t be necessary as he is an incredibly fit person. Sources say that since his retirement in 2006 his race fitness level hasn’t really dropped as he’s kept up the same fitness regime as always. However, he is still subject to a medical exam before he can race.
So, Valencia’s street circuit will be full of surprises without a doubt and there will be an eager crowd waiting to see if Jensen Button can continue with his success with the Brawn. Renault fans will be waiting patiently to see if there’s a chance that double world champion Alonso will race and others if not the majority will look forward to seeing the Schumacher of old and if he manages to finish in the top ten it will be a tremendous comeback.
To enjoy the Valencia Grand Prix 2009 why not make it extra special and rent apartments in Valencia. You are guaranteed a thrilling race!
