Spanish hooligans at Montmelo circuit
I spent the best part of the weekend hearing the scream of Formula 1 cars as I don’t live that far from the Montmeló circuit. The worst part of the weekend though was reading the Spanish press and watching the news showing how Lewis Hamilton was treated.
Spaniards are very quick to point out hooliganism and blame other cultures for this behaviour but apparently very slow when it happens on their doorstep by their own people. The imbeciles at this weekend’s testing at Montmelo should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves as they have not only let themselves down but have also let Alonso down and the Spanish Motor Racing Authorities, too.
Yes, Lewis Hamilton was subjected to racist abuse by spectators at the Montmeló circuit near Barcelona on Saturday, leading to the Spanish motor racing authority being warned by the FIA that any repeat would have serious consequences.
The Spanish press as always seemed to gloss over the imbecile spectator’s actions - only showing a few noted things such as when one fan asked for Lewis’ picture and ended up putting two fingers up behind in the shape of a bull’s horns. This quaint little gesture ( los cuernos or the horns as in bull’s horns) is quite an unsavoury Spanish complement I’ll have you know.
I realise that Spaniards want to protect Alonso but, alas have once again showed the world that they can be real “burros” when they want to be. It’s a shame that a few idiots can spoil a great day out.
