Rubens Barichello wins the European GP at Valencia

It’s certainly been a long time coming, 5 years to be exact and Rubens Barichello and his Brawn capitalized on a Mclaren pitstop error and handed the Brazilian the victory although all credit goes to him for a great drive which put him under great pressure from Lewis Hamilton as he tried to close the gap during the last 6 laps.

Hamilton had his second victory this season practically “in the bag” if it weren’t for a dreadful Mclaren pit-stop which cost him valuable seconds. Kimi Raikkonen made steady progress throughout the race, eventually claiming his third podium of the season behind Barrichello and Hamilton.

World championship leader Jenson Button had a miserable afternoon and could only manage seventh but his two nearest challengers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, fared even worse. Heikki Kovalainen took fourth place, with Nico Rosberg hot on his tail, while home favourite Fernando Alonso, Button and Robert Kubica collecting the rest of the points.
