Red Cross in Catalonia to distribute toys on 5th January

The Red Cross in Catalonia will distribute thousands of donated toys on Day of the King festivities, 5th January 2010

For example many children over eight years old can expect a gift through the Red Cross and they will not believe it when they open the package. The Kings have brought them a Scalextric, the Circuit de Catalonia. The Red Cross has more than 2,000 of these to distribute. Everything indicated that applications requesting free toys this year would increase but athe number of individuals who contributed haslso grown : a teddy bear, a building game, a puzzle … and contributions from the business sector, despite cutbacks has also increased.

The institution divides, whenever possible, three gifts per child: a book, a stuffed toy, and this year, which essentially involves sharing with another person. They are gifts with a message.

“With the Scalectric sets we have virtually covered the demand for children over eight years old. This is the hardest age group to cover, as most people bring gifts especially for young children,” said Xavi.

“The big gifts this year many companies have sponsored. We have several Batmobiles, which do not carry weapons. Unilever employees, promoted an internal competition. They put Christmas trees in each of the departments to see who contributed more gifts, “says Iolanda. All over Catalonia, Neighbourhood Associations, this year for the first time, have added to the cart.

“This year, without an increase in donations we would have struggled, but campaigns are still ongoing. And the more toys we have this year, much better”. said Iolanda.
