Oxcars 2009 Barcelona – Free Culture for All
With the invention of the Internet the world has changed along with our habits. We download music videos, pdf e-books, software and mp3 files to name but a few things. This way of life has been under threat for some time by the royalty management organisations and cultural lobbies. Now, the artists are saying that culture shouldn’t have a price on its head and that everyone should have free access to it. Barcelona is holding for the second year The Oxcars 2009.
The event starts on 29th October and the Catalan city of Barcelona will become centre stage for sharing and free culture for a whole week. The event is held at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona and there’s also an award ceremony crammed in as well.
Film directors Ridley Scott and brother Tony Scott along with independent studio A8 have created a project called Purefold which in effect are short films to which everybody has free access. Bringing up the rear we have Malviviendo who are 4 young people who had trouble trying to find jobs after finishing their studies. They decided to create their own series with a very small budget of around 40 euros per episode along with limited technical resources and a lot of imagination.
The world of literature is also represented in the form of Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa who’s a Spanish writer from Tenerife. He will present his novels in 3 different formats; A hardcover version, a paperback version and even a free version you can download from the Internet. This is a huge step and a very positive one for the moving towards a free culture. This surely deserves an Oxcar 2009 award!
A highlight of this great event is the special tribute that will be paid to Merce Cunningham (1919 – 2009), a dancer and choreographer from the USA. Everybody is invited to use or reproduce his Loops in other works. This selfless attitude has made him a pioneer in the move towards a free culture.
Music is also on the agenda and The Original Jazz Orchestra has worked very hard together with some local composers to create a more personal style. There will also be the traditional big band performances from the likes of Duke Ellington.
Why not support this philosophy of free culture for everyone and stand up for what is right! The Oxcars awards 2009 will be held at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona and presents the perfect opportunity for a trip to the Catalan capital. To get the most out of this cultural trip why not rent the best Apartments in Barcelona to ensure you have a great time.
