Michelin Restaurant Guide 2010 – Catalonia has some of the best

The new Michelin Guide 2010 has been released and in it some of the best restaurants in Catalonia are to be found. Spain is renowned for its fantastic Mediterranean cuisine and the S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants awarded first place to El Bulli in Catalonia, Spain. In fact, Spain was just pipped at the post by France which was the country most awarded.

This year the Celler de Can Roca Restaurant – run by the three Roca brothers took the third and thoroughly deserved Michelin star. This makes it one of the restaurants at the forefront of the Spanish avant-garde and this year it has been selected as one of the ten best restaurants in the world according to S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Only the Roca brother’s restaurant has achieved the highest score. There are currently seven restaurants with three stars, besides the Celler de Can Roca: Juan Mari Arzak’s restaurant the Arzak,  Ferran Adria’s restaurant ‘El Bulli’, Pedro Subijana’s restaurant Akelarre, Carme Ruscalleda’s restaurant Sant Pau, Martín Berasategui’s restaurant El restaurante de Martín Berasategui and Santi Santamaría’s restaurant Can Fabes.

In the two-star Michelin category we find: Paco Roncero’s restaurant La Terraza de Casino in Madrid, Casa Marcial restaurant in Asturias, Les Cols restaurant in Girona and the y el Lasarte restaurant in Barcelona.
The other Spanish restaurants that have earned a star are the following that are dotted about the country: the David Muñoz’s restaurant the Diverxo (Madrid), Etxebarri Axpe restaurant (Vizcaya), Ramón Freixa Madrid restaurant (Barcelona), As Garzas restaurant (A Coruña), Fonda Xesc de Gombrèn restaurant (Girona), La Cabaña de la Finca Buenavista restaurant (Murcia), Bo.tic restaurant (Girona), Kabuki Wellington restaurant (Madrid), Cocinandos restaurant (León), A Estación restaurant (Cambre, A Coruña), Casa Julio de Fontanar dels Alforíns restaurant (Valencia), El Torreó de L’India restaurant (Tarragona), Alejandro restaurant in Roquetas del Mar (Almería) and last but not least La Broche by Catalan chef Sergi Arola (Madrid).
