Barça’s president, Joan Laporta, has been invited to head up the electoral list of a Catalan separatist party. Reagrupament, a group that has split from Esquerra Republicana has asked the Barcelona boss to be their first candidate in next year’s Generalitat election.

Laporta ends his term as Barça president in June, and until then he appears unlikely to announce any plan for his future career. According to many commentators Laporta’s “new career” will consist of a long-planned Catalanista presence, a rumour backed by Laporta’s presence at the alternative celebrations for the Diada.

If it does happen, it hardly comes as a surprise. Laporta has overseen the completion of the Catalanisation process at FC Barcelona and made a complete ass of himself in the process. I think “normal” people are fed up with the Barcelona president using the club as a trampolin for his political career. He’s done a cracking job of stirring up emotions and many people are just simply fed up with his antics and throwing his toys out of the pram. He even phoned the president of Extremadura to call him an “imbecile” on repeated occasions. Is that the type of clown who’s good for running Reagrupament? Maybe it is!Maybe he’ll also be a good candidate for joining the likes of Millet or the other three involved in the corruption scandal. Who knows, maybe judge Baltazar Garzón will want to have a word in his ear in the future.
