First emergency water supplies reach Barcelona
The ‘Sichem Defender’, the first tanker loaded with emergency domestic water supplies from Tarragona, arrived in Barcelona port this morning at 8.30am.
It will take just seventeen hours to unload the 19,000 cubic litres on board, that were pumped from aquifers of the Camp de Tarragona and Reus.
In total, the water has been subjected to four rigorous quality control checks carried out before embarcation, during transport and on its arrival in Barcelona.
Over the next four days, two further tankers – from Marseilles in France – are expected.
Once the process is fully up and running, a total of 1.6 cubic hectometres will be delivered to Barcelona each month – 35 tanker-loads from Tarragona and 38 from Marseilles.
The cost of hiring the fleet of six tankers to be used in the operation is reported to be around €22 million euros a month.

Comment by Eugene V. Shaparenko on 9 September 2009:
Gentlemen – we understand that your country is facing a serious water crisis. I can assure you that you are not alone in this regard.
A new concept in seawater desalination has been developed which far exceeds anything that has been on the market or is on the drawing boards anywhere in the world. Vapor compression distillation for desalination can now provide large volumes of utility as well as medical grade water from seawater at costs lower than any known process and without scaling or corrosion of any component in the system.
We have desalination modules starting at 200,000 US gallons per day, tested for years on difficult Pacific Ocean water, ready for delivery in the 4th quarter of this year.
I invite you to inspect an overview of the technology, our company’s resources and manufacturing capabilities at http://www.aquatechnology.net/desalination1.html.
We are in the California time zone and can be reached at 1-805-773-4502 or on SKYPE at skype128987 for your convenience.
Remember, for all practical purposes, conventional desalination systems using reverse osmosis are now obsolete and will be replaced globally with more efficient systems, providing far greater water quality with little or no maintenance or repair.
Perhaps we can assist you. Sincerely, Gene Shaparenko, CEO.
