Only 4 Out of 10 Youngsters in Catalonia Habitually Speak Catalan

Only 44.3% of youngsters in Catalonia between 15 and 29 years have admitted that they routinely speak Catalan while 12% do not speak or understand it said a report of the Observatory Català de la Joventut, carried out by the Departament d’Acció Social.
For those older than 29 years of age, 52% of the population speak Catalan according to the study. This is mainly because of the the language immersion model – most youngsters understand the Catalan language but, it is not commonly used in their environment.
