You can instantly recognize his fancy t-shirts, dresses and jackets at once. His use of strong colours, geometric shapes and wonderful animal prints has created a unique style, one which everyone wants to wear! Custo Dalmau draws his inspiration from the city of Barcelona, the city where he grew up. The Catalan capital has always enjoyed a fine reputation as an international centre of new artistic trends which are at the forefront of design. As we have said, Custo’s designs are unmistakeable and you can find them just strolling up and down Las Ramblas in the centre of Barcelona.

The Custo story is quite a nice one. Apparently he and his brother David, went on a motorcycle trip to California in the late seventies and fell in love with the surfer fashion, especially their funky t-shirts! At this time the fashion in Spain was not very popular.

When he got back to Barcelona, Custo’s unique style was born and he opened his very first shop in 1996. His style and imagination knows no limits and he often uses patchwork, stripes, bright and fine fabrics like silk, flowers along with Japanese or Hindu iconography in his catchy designs.

Custo Barcelona has achieved global fame and has also received many awards for his contributions to the fashion industry. He won the best Spanish brand for 2009 and the Barcelona És Moda 2008 Award. Many Hollywood film stars have been seen wearing Custo’s outfits. Stars like Brad Pitt, Claudia Schiffer and Penelope Cruz admire the Custo Barcelona style. His super cool creations have even appeared on some TV shows like Friends and Sex in the City which have been lured by its fresh and luxurious design.

During the Fashion Week in New York, Custo Dalmau presented his new Spring-Summer 2010 collection, whose main concepts are the movement and the lightness of the materials used. It was therefore no surprise when he called his show the “Air Show“. Other countries have been left literally speechless with his cool designs, like Italy, that has awarded him with the Fashion Oscar or Kore, or France, that gave him the best designer of the year award courtesy of the Marie-Claire magazine. Custo even has his own fragrances and colognes. Today, there are over 3,000 Custo-Barcelona outlets worldwide and more than 55 shops.
