Burberry to dismiss 300 workers in Barcelona

The decision means the disappearance of the subsidiary that were responsible for the design and marketing of exclusive collections for the Spanish market.

The textile group Burberry announced today a Record of Employment Regulation (ERE) that affect the 300 employees working in the industrial centre of Barcelona, whose closure of the company was announced today.

The decision means the disappearance of the subsidiary that were responsible for the design and marketing of exclusive collections for the Spanish market. According to the Burberry Group, the crisis and the fall in “important” sales do not justify the existence of these specific lines.

The British group has two subsidiaries in Spain, Burberry Spain, which employs 757 workers and is the most affected by the ERE, and Burberry Retail, responsible for the international collection, with a staff of 450 people.

The problems in the Spanish subsidiary of the brand began last year when it announced another ERE affecting 230 workers at the factory in Barcelona. On that occasion, the CEO of Burberry, Angela Ahredits, said the decision to reduce staff would help them to “trade in the current difficult situation and to emerge stronger once the global economy recovers.”
