Hard to believe that hard core despots existed in Western Europe in the 1970s. Intentionally trying to kill off a culture, with such a remarkable past simply baffles me. Very few people realize how much impact Catalans had on the many things in history. Such as making permanent settlements in California and the first Governors, etc. Maritime codes and procedures used throughout the Middle Ages. A history that goes back well into Iberic/Carthaginian period with the making of swords and pilums that influenced Roman weaponry. I could go on, but Catalans should be proud of their heritage and I would suspect are well aware of the importance of liberty and of freedoms. By all rights it should be its own country. The counts of Barcelona and Aragon creating a sphere of influence felt far and wide in the Mediterranean and as far as the Canary Islands in the Middle Ages. A remarkable culture and history.
