Spanish Motorsport Chief in Racism Row

Things are getting heated in the run-up to the last race of the season in Brazil where this season’s drivers’ championship winner will be decided. However, mirroring the rest of the season, most of the action is happening off track.

Carlos Garcia, head of motorsport in Spain, has angered many English sports fans by labelling them racist. “It is perfectly normal for a British team and British fans wanting to succeed in Formula 1,” he said. “But it is ironic that the racists in England are having to rely on a coloured driver.”

Garcia, who will be attending the Brazilian Grand Prix as a guest of McLaren, soon realised his mistake and hastily issued an explanation later in the day. “There was no racist element to what I said,” he explained. “What I meant was England has been looking for a Formula 1 idol for years and no matter who he was, they were going to give him all their support.”

  1. I personally think Carlos Garcia has his Fernado Alonso Y Fronts in a twist! I can’t believe a person of his standing has had to stoop so low as to brand the English as “racists”. First of all, I’ve been living in Spain for about 12 years and Spain has always struck me as more “racist” than England - just look at Catalunya and the Basque country for example - both so called “countries” can’t tolerate the Spanish! This is borne out by their languages - Catalán and Euskadi - and a large number refuse to speak Spanish at all!

Getting back to Carlos Garcia - I think he should grow up a bit and stop defending the pathetic Alonso who’s done nothing but winge all season about a rookie driver, yes rookie you heard right and who also threatened his boss by revealing some confidential data (emails) to the FIA. Instead of defending this little twerp he should have called for his sacking but no, he’s Spanish, isn’t he?

Regarding Garcia’s U-Turn on what he said about racism - just another pathetic attempt to take the heat off himself - I mean how could there NOT be an element of racism in his comments? The guy should be sacked.

By the way someone should remind Garcia that Great Britain has had 8 world champion drivers and Spain has only had one and in my opionion you could have had a trained monkey in the Renault and he would have done the same job as Alonso.
