ALAKRANA AND ALL 36 CREW FREED IN SOMALIA

So, the pirate saga has ended and Spain has paid the bounty of 2.6M dollars to a group of Somalian pirates. Nice. First of all let’s get one thing straight, it’s not very nice to be held at gunpoint on a ship out in the middle of nowhere by some Gung-Ho pirates who have boarded your fishing trawler. Can anyone tell me why these guys were fishing outside of the perimeter established? Greedy Spanish fisherman can only be my answer to that one. Does the Alakrana pay anything to the authorities of the Seychelles where the trawler is apparently based? Is the trawler based in the Basque country like some others are saying? Does the trawler pay anything to anyone? Does Jack Sparrow have anything to do with this?

One of the biggest questions lies with the Spanish government: why pay these clowns 2.6M dollars? Doesn’t Spain have any special services like US Navy Seals or the SAS? I’m pretty sure these guys would have had them out in no time at all. Instead, Spain drops its trousers once again to pick up the proverbial prison shower soap and takes it up the backside, again. Where are Spain’s cojones? I’m quite sure a bunch of Spanish matadors would have gladly tried to liberate the Alakrana in their amazing ‘trajes de luces’!

Spain has opted for the bunny in the headlights scenario instead of standing up to these blighters and what’s right. Spain seems to be undergoing a regression to the 80s at the moment with high unemployment, muggings, crap jobs, low paid crap jobs and a big drug problem to name a few things. This is what the Spanish people didn’t need at this time – a kick in the teeth by their own government. Mind you, Spain might be taking a leaf out of France’s books – if in doubt, transfer a huge sum of money into a Swiss bank account, thank you very much! That’ll get things moving, won’t it?

More than 10 ships and 200 hostages are currently being held by pirates operating in waters off Somalia. Many of the pirates began as fishermen and say they are stopping illegal foreign fishing boats stealing Somali fish, BBC international development correspondent Mark Doyle reports.

So to sum up: Somalia has their 63 pirates  back along with the 2 that Spain had hostage and are 2.6M dollars up on the deal. Spain’s reputation is in tatters again for the handling of the affair which has dragged on for over a month now, are 2.6M dollars down and have red faces and maybe red bums too. At least the hostages are safe now so they can pillage Somali fish again and not pay them a red cent in the process.
