Mighty Barça out of Champions League

It was the night “the special one” craved for – to beat Barcelona on their home turf! A ten man Inter team made an amazing Barça team look pretty normal as they tried to penetrate Inter’s defenses but without joy.
A bad decision by the ref which saw Motta get a red card for a limp trailing hand which caught Sergi Busquets’ neck. Busquets promptly went down like a sack of spuds and held his face only to peer through guilty fingers to see what was going on. An embarrassing start to what should have been a more open game. Basically the ref changed the course of the game and instead of Inter creating the odd chance and counter attack, they were left with no other option but to defend their 3-1 lead.
Barça played extremely well but couldn’t penetrate Inter’s 10 man defense courtesy of the referee. Pique’s goal was sublime even though it was off-side and allowed. Bojan missed a great chance which left Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar for dead with a glancing header. That would have sealed it for Barça but it was not meant to be. The ‘obsession’ that Mo talked about was coming to an end.
In the last minutes Barça scored again only to have it disallowed because of a previous foul – the ball was handled by Keita just outside the penalty area. At the end of the day, Barça were incapable of capitalizing on the gift of 10 men that was presented to them and so Inter will meet Bayern Munich in the final at The Bernabeu.
As the match ended Mourinho ran on the field to celebrate in front of the Inter Milan crowd in the stadium. Much to the disgust and dismay of the Barcelona camp, they promptly turned on the sprinklers to drown out any celebrations on their pitch! Oh dear, it seems that once you are acustomed to winning 6 trophies, the come-down is worse than a junkie without crack for a week. Valdés seemed to grab Mourinho by the neck, too. Maybe it was just too much for him to digest and Mourinho celebrating in front of the Inter Milan crowd was the final straw.
Chelsea fans will no doubt see this as a victory by asociation and some kind of compensation for last year’s fiasco which saw Barcelona go into the final by luck.
