Experiencing Beautiful Barcelona

Of all tourist destinations in Europe, Barcelona ranks among the most popular. The city has a rich history, offers magnificent architecture, maintains old and new customs, and allows visitors the chance to dine on some of the world’s finest food. Known as being a privileged city, Barcelona was not always a peaceful place.

In most recent years, Barcelona went through a repression in the mid-1920s but with the establishment of the International Fair of 1920, things began to turn around. The city of Barcelona became hopeful but this was short lived when the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936. While Barcelona lived through a number of challenging periods, this was by far the most difficult.

During the post-war period after the war ceased in 1939, the city was left with restoration work needing to be done on both industry and economy arenas. This was a time when a dictatorship under Franco started that eliminated many of the people’s rights and freedoms but after his death in 1975, major improvements occurred. Within seven years, Barcelona would become the host of the Olympic Games and since that time, its image put the city back in the spotlight for tourist from around the globe.
