New Year’s roundup in Catalonia Spain

It’s been a bit of a dreadful start to the year 2009 so far and not just in Spain but elsewhere in the world, too. It looks like the Israelis are donning their gestapo boots and carrying on where Adolf left off. Genocide seems to be on their minds at the moment. The Palestine people, well Hamas to be exact do not seem to want peace and who can blame them when their neighbours are intent on wiping them off the face of the earth! All rather unsavoury if you ask me. Here we have one of the most highly trained and specialized armies in the world bent on destroying the Gaza strip and all who reside in it.

A Spanish proverb they both may not know goes something like this; Dos no pelean si uno no quiere or It takes two to tango in English.

Freddie Kanouté who plays for Seville has been fined 3,000 Euros for lifting up his shirt and showing a t-shirt in support of Palestine. Naughty Freddie, I wonder if he would have done that when he played for the Hammers?

News just in: Housewives favourite Cristiano Ronaldo has smashed up his Ferrari believe it or not. Sources say it was only two days old! Apparently he was on his way to the training ground and er…..hit a wall…as you do. Edwin Van der Sar was behind in his Bentley and gave his chum a lift. Nice.

Weather has been rotten in Spain and today Madrid got a taste of snow, lots of it, around 12 cm in some places. catalonia looks like it’s going to get some of the same treatment with lots of places in the region already on alert due to snowfalls. Madrid’s airport barajas was actually closed for 5 hours today as they dealt with the climate. As if the poor passengers hadn’t enough with the air traffic controllers and then Iberia, Spain’s great!

More news: Half of Spain is suffering from the flu – it’s official! In Cataluña alone there are 140 people down with the flu for every 100,000 inhabitants. Might be a Spanish ploy to get more time off work I suspect 😉 Only joking! Hey I also enjoy puenting!

A drug trafficker was killed while in hospital in Madrid yesterday. Apparently some guy just walks into a room where this Columbian drug baron was staying and pulls out a pistol with silencer and kills him! I feel sorry for the guy in the next bed who now needs help to get over the shock. Worse than the movies!

Right that’s it for today, got to get back trying to salvage some SEO for my firm’s website. Speak soon.
