Pedro Jiménez has been sentenced to serve 83 years in jail for raping and murdering two trainee female police officers at a flat in the Bellvitge district of L’Hospitalet in October 2004.
Described by psychologists as a ‘psycopath’, Jiménez was also convicted of breaking and entering, robbery with violence, arson and profaning the corpses, and has been ordered to pay his victims’ families around €300,000 euros in compensation.
The incident occurred during the early hours of 5th October, 2004, while Jiménez was on leave from Can Brians jail, where he was serving 30 years for two previous rapes.
His victims, María Aurora Rodríguez (23) and Silvia Nogaledo (28), were tortured and raped before killed by having their throats slashed.
In an effort to destroy evidence, Jiménez set fire to the flat before making his getaway.
However, he was arrested two days later after being tracked down to a semi-derelict property on the outskirts of Girona owned by a Turkish man he had befriended in jail.
At his trial, Jiménez consistently denied having killed the women, saying that he had gone to their flat only to buy drugs, and blaming their murders on an alleged drug dealer named ‘Alex’.
