Fernando Alsonso will be the attraction today as he steps out onto the circuit in Jerez as a Renault driver for the second time in his career. He’ll do it though, not with the new R-28 which has been designed for this season but with a R-27 hybrid which has the traction control disconnected.
It certainly promises to be an eventful day as Alonso could meet up with his old sparring partner Lewis Hamilton who he finished second to last season at McLaren.
Alonso’s quest for today though will be to improve Renault’s image as yesterday, Nelsinho Piquet – Alonso’s partner this year could not get better than 9th best as yesterday’s sessions were dominated by the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. Having said that, yesterday’s sessions were not at all typical as the cars from Toro Rosso finished fourth and sixth fastest and Pedro Martinez de la Rosa was third in his McLaren.
