Spanish Bureaucracy is great…NOT!

Ever had trouble with this one here in Catalonia or Spain? Who hasn’t? Have you ever filled in the 20 forms asked for and presented your 3 passport photos and a complete report of what your dad had for breakfast the day before yesterday? What do you think about? Got a story to tell? Tell us…

I did not realize the troubles that were shared around the world in response to traveling. Here in America it is a major pain to get across the country… let alone leave it for any amount of time. Life has the same ups and downs no matter where you spend it.
My son is planning to go to university in the UK in September 2010 – we’re British citizens, resident in Catalonia since 1997 – and I’d like to hear from anyone else who has had experience of the UK student loans system, as it applies to ex-patriates…
Funny comments – I have had similiar problems although not as bad as David lol….
My DNI had run out and had to go to the area in Barceloneta to get it renewed. I took the morning off of work to do it and when I finally got to the front of the queue they sent me round the corner, I couldn’t believe it!
After about an hour´s wait the Policeman took all my documents and then wanted to see my passport, oops! I had left it at home.
Another morning off work I have all documents and after a few hours get them all stamped up and they tell me to wait 40 days and then go to Granollers (yes Granollers) to pick it up.
40 days pass by and I go to pick up my shiny new DNI only to be told that they don’t have it and I should fill out all the forms again. My Spanish wife went ballistic and managed to get an interview asap ( it was quite funny because one of the contestants from Operación Triunfo was trying to obtain a passport, I’ll never forget her face!)
Anyway after things cooled down and they did their “thing” with 20 photcopies of this and 15 photocopies of that they tell me to come back in another 40 days to pick up my DNI
I went back and it was a complete success – yes they had it – all shiny and new plus another morning off work – pukka!
